What is the success rate of implants?
Treatment with implants is a solution not only modern but also established in time. There is a great amount of scientific bibliography that supports the effectiveness of using implants as a prosthetic solution in dentistry. According to the latest studies, implants have survival rate in mouth 98% for the first five years. On the other hand the long-term success of implants depends on how careful the patients are with everyday oral hygiene. Except from that a wholesome restoration of mouth, according to the protocols as always, plays a major role in having the desired result too. One such result is a mouth where muscles, joints teeth and implants work cooperatively and smoothly altogether.
How much do implants cost?
The cost of implants’ placement depends on many different factors such as the amount of bone that is available in every patient’s mouth before the surgery and also on the presence or no of special individual needs. For example one such need is the need of having an aesthetic outcome or the need for placement of temporary restorations through the whole process. You can find indicative pricelist of our clinic here: https://cretadental.com/en/pricelist/
Am I going to be in pain after the implant placement?
Our patients after the procedure of implant placement can continue normally the rest of the day, following their personal schedule as it was before. For example they can go to work or do their everyday activities. Most of the times, painkillers are enough for the first 1-2 days in order not to hurt at all. In some cases, such as in cases that include simultaneous bone grafting, swelling is observed for the first two days and then it retreats. Many of our patients mentioned to us that they did not even need painkillers after the procedure of implant placement that they got through in our clinic.
How long does the surgery last?
The placement of implants in our clinic lasts 15-30 minutes. Our doctors due to their long experience, make the procedure not only simple and fast but also pain-free.
What if the implant fails?
The survival rate of implants is very high, 98% for the first five years. Despite all this, in case of failure the procedure can be repeated after the extraction of the implant by the dentist and the surgical cleaning of that region of the mouth. Alternatively a new implant can be placed in adjacent appropriate region of the mouth. I f this is impossible too there is always the solution of a whole new treatment plan appropriate for the new conditions.
How long does it take to eventually have teeth again?
After the procedure of implant placement into the bone, the placement of the crown can be done after varied period of time. This is a decision that the surgeon makes according to the conditions after the surgery. The period of time depends directly on the bone quality. That period varies from 4 month maximum to 0 days minimum which means that in some cases the placement of the implant and the crown can be done simultaneously.
Am I going to be toothless in that period of time?
Until the time of crowns’ placement come there is for every patient the opportunity to have temporary teeth if they want to. Our dentists build in advance the temporary teeth if the patient want them in order to have a temporary solution not only for aesthetic but also for functional reasons too.
Should I clean the implants or no?
Implants need the same care with natural teeth. Although they don’t suffer from caries, it is possible to suffer from peri-implantitis. Peri-implantitis is a disease similar to periodontitis or periodontal disease. Everyday cleaning by the patient at home but also professional cleaning every 3-6 months by the dentist or by our periodontologist are necessary. In order to get the maximum lifetime of implants in mouth and also to avoid the above –mentioned problems.
Implant-based or classic bridges?
The implant-based bridges replace not only the missing teeth, but also their roots! As a result, the shape and the amount of the bone and the soft tissues are retained , whilst in classic bridges the gradual bone loss clearly affects the aesthetic appearance of the final restoration. Furthermore, we do not cut, drill, weaken or in any way affect the adjacent teeth , and therefore their prognosis is not impaired.
Implant-based or classic dentures?
The implant-based dentures are superior to the classic full and partial dentures in many ways. They do not move or shake when chewing and speaking, they prevent soft tissue shrinkage and bone resorption and they don’t need to be replaced or refilled. In addition, they give us a better sense as far as bite force and function are concerned and they undoubtfully have a better prognosis , provided that we have a good oral hygiene.
What is the bone graft and when is it needed?
In some cases, the dimensions of the existing bone in the area we want to restore is not adequate for the clinician to put the proper size of the implant and a bone graft is then placed first. Bone graft is the natural or synthetic graft (substitute) of the bone, with which we can increase the total amount of the patient’s bone. Depending on the size of the deficiency, the placement of the bone graft can occur either simultaneously with the implant surgery or a few months later, so that there is enough time to mature and connect with the natural bone.
What is the computed guided implant placement?
In Creta Dental we can proudly claim that the implant placement is performed with the most modern ways. These include the digital study of the casts and the 3d printing of surgical splints , which provide the best possible accuracy and safety during the procedure.
Is there an age limitation for the implant placement?
Aging is not an obstacle when choosing to put an implant. All recent studies have shown that it is perfectly safe to put an implant , when the bone development has stopped (18-20 years old). Similarly, the elderly can undergo an implant placement surgery with safety , if of course they do not face serious health problems.
After the placement of an implant, as in every case of oral surgery, the appearance of minor complications such as a light swelling, bleeding or local pain is possible. These symptoms can be reduced or even prevented, as result of the well organized planning before the surgery , the accuracy of the computer guided implant placement and the clinical abilities of our surgeons.
We can always choose between a removable or a non removable prosthetic restoration, depending on the number of the implants and the missing teeth. The removable restoration resembles a classic full/partial denture, but its’ inner surface is based on an attachment over an implant istead. On the other hadn, a non -removable restoration , the implant crown, either single or as a part of an implant bridge, is screwed onto the implant and is not removed.
Which is the procedure for implant placement
- X-ray examination to evaluate the amount and quality of the jawbone
- Extraction of the damaged teeth in the area
- Bone graft placement, if needed
- Implant placement
- Placement of the healing abutment, to define the shape of the gums around the future restoration.
- Construction and placement of the prosthetic restoration ( artificial teeth)
Preparation – Why should you put an implant in our clinic
No matter how much technology and science has developed and how simplified procedures have become, an implant surgery is still considered a very demanding clinical task. Therefore, except from the necessary high quality equipment, the clinical experience and skills of the doctor play a significant role to the outcome of the therapy. That is the reason why our clinic consists of dentists with an impressively long CV of both clinical experience and academic studies, who can handle even the most difficult cases with safety and predictability. The implant restorations demand both your time and money. and we make sure that your health and investment are in good hands!
Advantages – disadvantages
- There is no need to drill the adjacent teeth , which may be healthy and intact,in contrast to when it comes to constructing dental bridges.
- There is no need to remove the implant in order to clean it, as in dentures. We just have to brush our teeth, as usual.
- In case you have pain, the restoration is not damaged, whereas the implant is unscrewed and then put back in your mouth.
- They are superior to other prosthetic solutions, as far as aesthetics, longevity and masticatory function are concerned.
- They replace not only the tooth , but also its root!
- They provide horizontal stability and as a result give a better sense of convenience during the speech , compared to removable dentures.
Missing any teeth? Well, don’t miss out on quality of life!
The loss of one or more teeth can change our eating habits, speech, behavior, appearance and, therefore, negatively affect both our psychology and self-confidence.
In addition, loss of a tooth can cause damage to the bone around the root even if the lost tooth is restored with a fixed dental prosthesis (bridge). As a result, bone loss increases in time.
Fortunately, Dental Implants have been an excellent solution over the last 30 years, as they replace not only the lost tooth but also the dental root. Therefore, Dental Implants are a solid foundation for artificial teeth, which not only look but also feel like your natural teeth.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are tooth implants; basically, screwed-on teeth.
Essentially, Dental Implants are artificial, metal tooth roots made of titanium, the most biocompatible material. Dental Implants are placed in the jaw bone, where a tooth is missing. The dentist uses this “root” to support the artificial tooth.
This method is suggested if you have lost one or more teeth and wish to fill the gap without artificial dentures or bridges and avoid any sharpening of adjacent teeth.
“Are Dental Implants suitable for me?”
Successful implantation does not require much on your behalf. Naturally, a good general health, regardless of age, and a healthy lifestyle are the best conditions for a successful prognosis and the long-term survival of implants.
If you have any health problems, such as high blood pressure or glucose levels, we will just have to collaborate with a pathologist before implantation to avoid complications.
Once our specialized Implantologist finds that there is bone sufficiency following a full radiograph, our specialist carries out implantation in the clinic, using local anesthesia. The process is quick. Only one appointment is required for the placement of the “screw”.
After implantation, you should wait for about 2-5 months until the implant is incorporated into the jawbone. During this time you may undergo interim restoration. Once the necessary period of time has passed, the doctor will proceed to the second phase, revealing the implant and taking the final measures to support the new, artificial tooth on the implant (screwed-on teeth).
Profit from cutting-edge technology
Are you a fan of technology in any science? The entire implant placement process becomes even more predictable and effective with the use of the latest technological methods. Digital three-dimensional radiograms are combined with digital tooth imaging and customized dental splints for fully computer guided implants.
